Open Streets Cape Town (OSCT) and Young Urbanists (YU) invite you to walk and talk along Main Road, Woodstock to reflect on the potential of streets and public spaces as sites for community engagement.
On 1 October 2017, during Open Streets Main Road, 5km of the M4 (specifically, Main Road, Victoria Road and Sir Lowry Road) became a car free corridor and highlighted the potential for further community engagement to create better public spaces in our city.
As we walk down Main Road, Woodstock we will be reflecting on ways to meaningfully incorporate the lived and imagined experiences of those using streets, parks and public spaces on a frequent basis. OSCT places significant emphasis on engaging with residents, businesses and other stakeholders to innovate, and create new ways of designing and experiencing public space.
We are also happy to welcome the facilitators of EcoDistricts in Portland, Oregon to the Talking Streets event. We will be sharing ideas and methodologies of what has worked in other places and will reflect how we can build on existing initiatives in Cape Town.
