The year has just started and it’s already shaping up to be another busy one. Just look at our calendar!
We’re hosting the first Open Streets Indaba on 18 January, Talking Streets in Woodstock on the 20th, Open Streets Main Road on 25 February, and Open Streets Mitchells Plain on 25 March.
These happenings give Capetonians plenty of opportunities to experience streets differently. They also create platforms for expression and city making. If your New Year’s resolution was to make a difference in Cape Town somehow, they’re a chance to do just that.
And so is joining Street Lab community. This is a new Open Streets initiative that aims to build a real-world, citizen-driven body of knowledge about transport in Cape Town. We ask Street Lab members to contribute through short monthly online surveys, helping each other change their personal transport habits, and getting involved in other initiatives where they feel there is a good fit for them. Sound good? Join here.
Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, most people seem to value health and wellbeing at this time of year. But, as we all know, it’s difficult to stay on track. In 2017, we had two formal #Bike2Train Challenges that encouraged train commuters to shift to cycling to get to the station. This saved them money and also helped them stay fit. Maybe it’s something you can try in your own capacity in 2018. If you do, let us know how you get along!
