Take the #Bike2Work Bike Bus from Palmyra Junction to Cape Town every Friday!

One of the best ways to commute to work is by bicycle and we are on a mission to get as many people as possible to cycle to work in Cape Town. Building on the first two successful #Bike2Work bike buses from Newlands Palmyra Junction to Cape Town this year, we will now be coordinating weekly #Bike2Work bike buses along the same route.

Cycling to work in a group increases your visibility on the road, combined with a careful route choice, responsible and alert riding, and the knowledge of a more experienced cyclist, a ‘bus’ can make riding to work much safer and more fun than cycling alone.

It is not only about a pleasant commute 'though, as was noted by Minister Alan Winde in last month’s bike bus. Cycling as a form of transport can really be a game-changer in the mobility agenda for our city. He pointed out the different roles we can all play. For instance, the private sector can support and encourage employees to cycle to work, by creating company policies and #Bike2Work schemes that will benefit and promote a cycling culture.

Essentials for cycling to work:

  1. Bicycle in good working condition
  2. Helmet
  3. Lights (front and back)
  4. A bottle of water
  5. Bicycle lock
  6. Tyre spares

The #Bike2Work bike bus from Palmyra Junction to Cape Town will run every Friday starting from 29 June. The bus will leave Palmyra Junction at 7am, and you can check out the route here .

How do I join?

Simply be at Palmyra Junction by 6:45am or you can get in touch with Sindile Mavundla on 084 551 2053 or email sindile@openstreets.co.za

In addition to rolling out weekly bike buses from Newlands, the next monthly #Bike2Work bike bus will include a new route from Gugulethu to Cape Town on the last Friday in July. You can check out the route here. Join us in growing communities of cyclists across the city!
